Launch of An Equestrian Life

Today is the first official post on my brand spankin’ new website, An Equestrian Life. Huzzahs are in order!

HUZZAH!

I was originally going to get my original blog name, “Vintage Virginia”, as the URL, but it turns out that was taken. For a few months now, I’ve been sitting on my original wordpress.com site, trying to come up with some brilliant name to replace it. I decided that even though I loved my old name, it was true that Vintage Virginia doesn’t really tell people what my blog is about, and is really just a reference to my horse, and my state. Plus when since I used the name on instagram, I got a lot of @’s for wine things. Virginia wine and all.

I spent a lot of time trying to come up with a new website name, and this was the best I could come up with. It makes perfect sense to me – There’s lots of things I love and enjoy, but at the center of it, my passion, is horses. Hopefully I won’t regret it as time goes by (both the name and the horse obsession). I changed my instagram name to attempt to match it, but it turns out that anequestrianlife is taken. So instead, I’ve picked aneqlife. Perhaps obviously, but while I do hope to be competing is the EQ one day, I do not think I have any talent there, the EQ is merely short for equestrian.

Setting it up has been an adventure. I don’t think it would be hard for someone who knew what they were doing, but since I had no idea, it has been time consuming. I’ll still be developing, and changing, and hopefully it won’t take long until the site matches what I’ve planned out.

When I picked the URL, I had to call my hosting company to get it set up. The rep wanted me to spell out the website URL I wanted to be sure it was right. Due to my poor connection, it took many tries to get the URL right. I had to use the phonetic alphabet to spell it out, but unfortunately I don’t really know the phonetic alphabet, so I ended up just making up a lot of words. I could hear Dave laughing in the other room as I attempted it – “E, as in, excellent!… Q, as in, question…. U, as in…um….Uganda…E, as in… excellent again…”

In honor of this time consuming process, I continued to consume a lot of time to make this handy reference for future use.
