Elegant Horse Photoshoot in Leesburg, VA

What do you do when you have a nice dress and a horse? Obviously you combine the two for pictures!

I’ve been practicing my photography on people for a while now, and I decided it was time to combine it with horses. I asked Olivia if she’d be willing to model with her horse Frankie, and she agreed!

Olivia has been partnered with Frankie for four years now. They compete in the jumpers, doing some amazing things, and you can follow along on her blog at hellomylivia, and is on instagram @hellomylivia.

I actually met Olivia through our blogs 5 years ago. So crazy it’s been that long. I still remember when Vintage planted her face first into an evergreen tree… ah memories…

But when she’s not stuck in trees, she makes a pretty incredible model!

I’m having a bit of a moment with tulle, so I attached some to her and her kind husband agreed to do provide the fluffing for the camera.

I’m really happy with how these turned out! Olivia and Frankie did a great job. A big thank you to Olivia for posing!! And to her trainer for seeing us and being totally fine with sitting on her round bales in a fancy dress.

I can’t get over how beautiful these photos are. I feel like I’ve really improved as a photographer – I have a better understanding of lighting, posing, and composition.

I love shooting equestrian portraiture, so much so that I actually put out a model call for equestrians. That was actually pretty scary – I’m a bit of an introvert, and it’s a little scary to present yourself and your work to the world. But now have four more sessions currently scheduled! So at some level, people like my work. Or they just really like photos in general. Either way, I’m really excited for them! I have so much fun on shoots, I kind of can’t believe it took me this long to pursue it.

But, I’m doing it now, and that’s what really matters. Can’t wait to share the next shoot!
